Arike Ogunbowale was involved in a tense incident outside a Miami nightclub earlier this year, according to newly released body-camera footage that also shows Dallas Wings star Paige Bueckers at the scene. The video has drawn attention to the encounter as police attempted to detain Ogunbowale while teammates gathered nearby.
The incident happened around 4:15 a.m. on March 5 outside E11EVEN Miami. Bueckers and several other WNBA players had been celebrating Ogunbowale’s championship victory in the Unrivaled women’s basketball league before the group was escorted out of the club.
Bodycam Shows Tense Exchange
The newly surfaced video lasts about 1 minute and 48 seconds. It shows a Miami police officer attempting to detain Ogunbowale as a crowd gathered around her.
According to the footage, Bueckers put her arm around Ogunbowale and tried to calm the situation. She repeatedly told the officer, “We got her,” as police attempted to take Ogunbowale into custody.
The situation became more tense when the officer pulled out a Taser and ordered people around Ogunbowale to move back. The officer then pointed the Taser toward Bueckers as she remained close to her teammate.
Other WNBA players, including Jackie Young and DiJonai Carrington, were also seen around the scene as the confrontation unfolded.
Why Arike Ogunbowale Was Arrested
According to the police report, Ogunbowale was being detained after a nightclub security employee accused her of punching him in the face with a closed fist.
Authorities later reviewed surveillance footage from the nightclub and said it was consistent with the complaint. Ogunbowale was booked on a misdemeanor battery charge and released on a $1,000 bond.
The criminal case was later dropped in May. Ogunbowale’s attorney said at the time that the State Attorney’s Office had decided not to move forward with the case.
Footage Resurfaces Before WNBA Playoffs
The release of the body-camera footage comes as the Dallas Wings approach the 2026 WNBA playoffs. Bueckers and Ogunbowale remain two of the team’s key players.
The footage has now placed the two Dallas stars back in the spotlight months after the Miami incident. Neither Bueckers nor Ogunbowale has publicly addressed the newly surfaced video, according to the report.
The incident remains separate from the Wings’ current basketball campaign, with the team preparing for the postseason as the regular season reaches its conclusion.
