Apple has officially released iOS 27, bringing a major collection of artificial intelligence features, performance improvements, design refinements and new tools to compatible iPhone models. The update became available on September 14 and puts Apple Intelligence and the new Siri AI experience at the center of Apple’s latest software push.

Siri AI Takes Center Stage

New AI Tools for Photos
The Photos experience receives several notable AI-powered upgrades.
iOS 27 introduces Spatial Reframing, which lets users change the framing of a photo after taking it. An Extend tool can expand an image, while an improved Clean Up feature can remove larger unwanted objects.
These tools are designed to give iPhone owners more control over their photos without requiring traditional editing software.
iOS 27 Promises Faster Performance
Apple is also emphasizing performance improvements.
According to Apple, app launches can be up to 30% faster, new photos can load in the Photos library up to 70% faster, and AirDrop transfers can be up to 80% faster. Apple says improvements to the system’s CPU scheduling and other underlying technologies help make the overall experience more responsive.

Liquid Glass Gets Refinements
Apple has continued refining its Liquid Glass design language in iOS 27.
The company says the latest changes improve readability through more consistent refraction and stronger contrast. App icons have also been refined, while users get a new slider that allows them to adjust the appearance of Liquid Glass from an ultra-clear look to a more tinted appearance.
New Child Safety Features
Another important part of the update is Apple’s expanded collection of child-safety tools.
The new features give parents additional ways to manage the content children can access, who they can communicate with and when they can use apps. Apple says the tools are designed to provide families with more flexibility while creating safer digital experiences for children.
More Changes Across the iPhone
iOS 27 also brings improvements to accessibility, Mail, Maps, iCloud Shared Albums, AirPods and the Home app.
Apple has added new accessibility features, including richer image descriptions and improved captioning. Maps receives enhanced Flyover capabilities, while the Home app gains additional Apple Intelligence features for supported HomeKit Secure Video cameras.
The update also introduces AirPods Custom EQ, allowing users to personalize low, mid and high frequencies from AirPods settings.
Which iPhones Support the New AI Features?
Not every iPhone will receive every Apple Intelligence feature.
Apple says Apple Intelligence capabilities in iOS 27 are supported on iPhone 16 models and later, as well as iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max. Feature availability can also depend on language and region.
This means some iPhones can install iOS 27 while still missing certain AI-powered capabilities.
iOS 27 Also Includes Security Improvements
Beyond the headline features, updating to iOS 27 is important from a security perspective. The initial release addresses more than 100 security vulnerabilities, making the update relevant even for users who are less interested in the new AI features.
