NBA star Kevin Love has shared how the life of actor and comedian Robin Williams changed the way he understands depression. Love said Williams’ story showed him that mental health struggles are not always easy to see, even in people who seem happy and successful.
Kevin Love, who has spoken openly about his own battles with anxiety and depression, said he grew up watching Robin Williams’ movies and comedy. Like many people, he found it hard to believe that someone who brought so much laughter to others could be struggling with depression. Williams’ death made Love realize that mental illness can affect anyone, no matter how they appear on the outside.
Depression Is Not Always Visible
Love explained that one of the biggest lessons he learned is that people with depression do not always show obvious signs. Someone may smile, joke with friends, go to work, or appear successful while quietly dealing with emotional pain. That is why he believes it is important to check in on loved ones and not assume everything is fine based on appearances.
The NBA champion has become a strong supporter of mental health awareness since revealing in 2018 that he experienced a panic attack during a game. Since then, he has encouraged others to speak openly about their mental health and seek help when they need it.
Robin Williams died in 2014. After his death, doctors found that he had Lewy body disease, a brain disorder that can cause changes in thinking, mood, and behavior. His family later said the condition played a major role in the health problems he faced.
Love hopes Williams’ story will remind people to be kinder, listen without judging, and support those who may be struggling. He says talking openly about depression can help reduce stigma and encourage more people to get the help they need before their condition becomes worse.
