Playstation 5 The experimental SharpEmu PlayStation 5 emulator has reached another milestone, with six tested PS5 games now running at a playable 60 frames per second. The achievement comes with the release of SharpEmu version 0.0.4-release.2, marking continued progress for the open-source emulation project.
According to the latest report, developers have tested 55 PS5 games, with 12 titles reaching actual gameplay. Six of those games have reached the 60fps playable classification, although none has yet been tested from beginning to end. Minor graphical or audio problems may also remain.
Six Games Reach 60FPS playstation 5
The six games reported to run at 60fps are Dreaming Sarah, Void Terrarium, New Joe & Mac: Caveman Ninja, Tetris Forever, Hoa, and Tomb Raider IV–VI Remastered. These titles represent a relatively small portion of the PS5 library, but the results demonstrate that SharpEmu is progressing beyond basic game booting.
The developers use the term “playable” cautiously. A 60fps result does not necessarily mean a game can be completed without crashes, visual glitches or other problems. None of the six titles has been verified through a complete playthrough.
New SharpEmu Build Adds Improvements playstation 5
SharpEmu version 0.0.4-release.2 was released on September 25. The update includes additional SPIR-V shader translator instructions, support for a Vulkan extension, as well as CPU, graphics and settings fixes. The release notes do not attribute the six games’ 60fps performance to any single improvement.
SharpEmu supports Windows, Linux and macOS. The project uses Vulkan on Windows and Linux, while its macOS version relies on MoltenVK. Apple Silicon Macs can run the x64 macOS build through Rosetta 2.
PS5 Emulation Remains in Early Development
Despite the 60fps milestone, SharpEmu remains an experimental project. Its developers say compatibility and performance can vary depending on the game, operating system and graphics hardware. The project’s focus is currently on accuracy and emulator infrastructure rather than broad compatibility.
The project’s compatibility database also shows that many major PS5 titles remain at earlier stages, including games that only boot or reach menus. This highlights the considerable technical challenges involved in accurately emulating Sony’s current-generation console.
For now, the six-game 60fps milestone represents progress rather than a sign that PS5 emulation is ready for widespread use. As development continues, future SharpEmu builds could expand the number of games that reach gameplay and improve stability for titles already running.
