Habba said she was flattered by the odds but added that she was “not in the running for any job.” She also took aim at reports attributed to anonymous sources, joking that she would appreciate being informed if she were actually receiving a new assignment.
Trump’s Search for Leavitt’s Successor
The speculation follows Leavitt’s announcement that she plans to leave her role at the end of August to spend more time with her two young children. The 28-year-old press secretary had recently returned from maternity leave before announcing the change.
Habba is not a newcomer to Trump’s inner circle. She previously served as Trump’s personal attorney and became a prominent surrogate during his 2024 presidential campaign. She also spent a short period as counselor to the president before moving into the U.S. attorney role in New Jersey and later becoming a senior adviser to the attorney general for U.S. attorneys.

With Habba ruling herself out, prediction-market attention shifted toward CNN political commentator Scott Jennings and Leavitt’s deputy, Anna Kelly. Jennings had also reportedly been considered for the press secretary position following Trump’s 2024 election victory, before Leavitt was ultimately selected.
