Angel Reese Sets WNBA Rebounding Record With 26 Boards

Angel Reese delivered a historic performance Monday night, setting the WNBA’s single-game rebounding record while also breaking the league’s single-season mark as the Atlanta Dream defeated the Los Angeles Sparks 78-71.

Reese grabbed 26 rebounds, surpassing the previous WNBA single-game record of 24 set by Chamique Holdsclaw in 2003. Her performance also pushed her season total to 458 rebounds, seven more than the previous record of 451 set by A’ja Wilson in 2024.

Reese Dominates the Glass

The 26-rebound performance included eight offensive rebounds, giving Atlanta valuable second-chance opportunities throughout the game.

Reese also finished with 11 points, three assists and three steals, recording her 27th double-double of the season. The historic night came despite a difficult shooting performance, with Reese acknowledging afterward that her rebounding became an important way to impact the game.

“I just want to be consistent for my team,” Reese said after the game, emphasizing her willingness to contribute defensively and on the boards when her offense is not at its best.

Atlanta Holds Off Los Angeles

The Dream used a strong second-half push to pull away from the Sparks and secure the 78-71 victory.

Allisha Gray led Atlanta with 20 points, while Rhyne Howard added 18 and Naz Hillmon contributed 12. The victory improved the Dream to 25-13 and completed a perfect 4-0 West Coast road trip.

Los Angeles received a major performance from Nneka Ogwumike, who finished with a season-high 27 points and 16 rebounds. Dearica Hamby and Cameron Brink each scored 15 points for the Sparks.

A Record-Breaking Season

Reese’s latest achievement adds another milestone to an already remarkable 2026 campaign.

By reaching 458 rebounds with six regular-season games remaining, she has established a new WNBA benchmark for rebounds in a season while still having an opportunity to increase the record further.

Her performance also continues a remarkable progression for the Atlanta star, whose rebounding has become one of the defining aspects of her game.

Dream Strengthen Playoff Position

The victory was significant for Atlanta beyond Reese’s individual accomplishment. The Dream moved to 25-13 and remained in contention near the top of the standings with the regular season entering its final stretch.

For Los Angeles, the defeat was more damaging. The Sparks fell to 13-25 and were eliminated from playoff contention following the loss.

With six games left, Reese now has an opportunity to build on both of her new rebounding records as Atlanta prepares for the postseason.
