Good Good Golf Under Fire as Callaway Pulls Driver Promotion

Good Good Golf is facing growing criticism after a promotional video for a co-branded Callaway driver triggered a wave of backlash online, prompting the companies to remove the advertisement and issue statements addressing the controversy.

The short advertisement featured Good Good co-founder Garrett Clark approaching fellow Good Good member Alexis Miestowski as she reached for a golf club. Clark then shoved her to the ground before delivering a threatening line about his new driver. The video was intended to promote the Good Good version of Callaway’s Quantum driver.

Advertisement Sparks Immediate Backlash

The advertisement quickly drew criticism from golf fans and commentators, many of whom described the scene as inappropriate and unnecessarily violent. Critics were particularly concerned that the commercial appeared to portray aggression toward a woman as humor while promoting a golf product.

The controversy intensified because Good Good has positioned itself as a modern golf brand focused on making the sport more accessible and inclusive. The group has also developed a large audience across YouTube and social media.

The video was subsequently removed from Good Good and Callaway’s official social media accounts, although copies continued circulating online.

Good Good Apologizes

Good Good acknowledged the backlash in a public statement and apologized for the advertisement.

The company said the video depicted actions that did not align with its values and said it had removed the content. Good Good also reiterated its stated commitment to making golf more inclusive.

Callaway separately expressed disappointment with the content and said it appreciated Good Good addressing the issue. The company said it looked forward to working with the group to support a more inclusive environment in golf.

PGA Tour Also Responds

The controversy has attracted additional attention because Good Good has a growing relationship with the professional golf industry.

Good Good is scheduled to serve as the title sponsor of the Good Good Championship, a PGA Tour Fall Series event scheduled for November in Austin, Texas. The PGA Tour said it does not condone violence and that the deleted advertisement did not represent its values or commitment to inclusivity and respect.

The response highlights the broader challenge facing sports organizations as they increasingly work with social-media creators and digital-first brands whose content can reach millions of viewers quickly.

Marketing Partnership Under Scrutiny

Callaway and Good Good began their partnership in 2023, with the relationship allowing the brands to collaborate on products and marketing content. The Good Good Quantum driver was one of the products developed through that relationship.

The incident has now raised questions about how promotional material involving influential creators is reviewed before publication. A campaign designed to generate attention for a new product instead became the center of a debate about advertising judgment, brand responsibility and the message sent to women and younger audiences in golf.

For Callaway and Good Good, removing the advertisement and apologizing may help contain the immediate controversy. However, the episode has placed renewed attention on the companies’ marketing partnership and their broader commitments to inclusion in the sport.
