Cox Is Now Spectrum After Major Cable Deal

Cox is now Spectrum following Charter Communications’ completion of its $34.5 billion acquisition of Cox Communications, creating one of the largest broadband and video companies in the United States. The transaction officially closed on August 20, 2026, and about 6 million Cox customers are being brought into the Spectrum brand.

What the Deal Means for Cox Customers

For existing Cox customers, the transition is not expected to immediately disrupt their internet, television or other services. Spectrum says current customers will see no immediate changes to their existing service, pricing or plans unless they choose to make a change themselves.

Spectrum branding, pricing and packaging are expected to launch across former Cox markets by mid-September. Customers will eventually have access to Spectrum’s internet, mobile and entertainment offerings as the integration moves forward.

Free Mobile Service and New Benefits

One of the biggest incentives for former Cox customers is a free mobile offer. Cox internet customers who are not already using Cox Mobile can receive one year of free Spectrum Mobile service under the new company’s promotional offer.

Spectrum also says former Cox customers will receive its customer-service commitments, including 24/7 U.S.-based support, same-day technician dispatch for certain outage reports and bill credits for outages lasting more than two hours.

A Major Change for the Cable Industry

The $34.5 billion transaction significantly expands Charter’s customer base and network footprint. The combined company will serve roughly 38 million broadband subscribers, making it the largest cable broadband provider in the country.

The deal also represents a major consolidation of the U.S. cable industry as traditional television providers compete with streaming services and changing consumer habits. Charter says the combination is designed to create greater scale while expanding connectivity and services for customers.

For Cox subscribers, the most important takeaway is that the company name and branding may change, but their current service does not need to change immediately. As the Spectrum transition continues through September and beyond, customers will have opportunities to explore new plans, mobile services and entertainment packages.
