Katseye’s Sophia Laforteza Steps Away From the Group

Is Sophia from KATSEYE on hiatus? Yes. Sophia Laforteza, a member of the popular girl group KATSEYE, is temporarily stepping away from group activities to focus on her mental health and overall well-being. The announcement was made on August 7, just before the group was scheduled to perform at the Head in the Clouds festival in California.

Sophia Says Her Health Comes First

Sophia explained to fans that the decision was not easy. She said she loves performing and sharing moments with fans, but she has realized that taking care of her mind and body is important for her future.

Her record labels, HYBE and Geffen Records, said medical professionals recommended that she take an extended period of rest and continue receiving care. Her condition is expected to be reviewed again in September.

Sophia also thanked fans for their support and asked them to continue supporting KATSEYE while she takes time to recover. She said she hopes to return stronger after getting the rest she needs.

KATSEYE Becomes a Four-Member Group

Sophia’s break means KATSEYE will continue upcoming activities with four members: Daniela Avanzini, Lara Raj, Megan Skiendiel and Yoonchae Jeung.

The group is preparing for the release of its upcoming EP, WILD, which is scheduled for August 14. KATSEYE also has major performances and tour plans ahead.

Sophia’s absence is the second major member break for KATSEYE this year. Manon Bannerman also stepped away from the group in February to focus on her health and well-being. She has not yet returned to group activities.

Fans Show Support for Sophia

Sophia’s announcement has led to an outpouring of support from KATSEYE fans, known as EYEKONS. Many fans have expressed their hope that she takes the time she needs to rest and recover.

KATSEYE was formed in 2023 through the Dream Academy project created by HYBE and Geffen Records. The group has quickly built an international fan base with songs including “Touch,” “Gnarly” and “Gabriela.” The group was also nominated for two Grammy Awards in 2026.

For now, KATSEYE will continue its activities as a four-member group while Sophia focuses on her health. Her return will depend on her recovery and the results of her planned September reassessment.
