Retroid has officially revealed pricing for its upcoming Pocket Duo and Pocket Duo Lite dual-screen handhelds, giving retro gaming fans a clearer idea of what the new clamshell devices will cost.
The company has announced both preorder and regular retail prices, while also confirming the memory and storage configurations for each model. The Pocket Duo will be available in a single configuration with 8GB of RAM and 128GB of storage.
The more affordable Pocket Duo Lite will offer two configurations. The entry-level model comes with 4GB of RAM and 64GB of storage, while a higher-capacity version includes 6GB of RAM and 128GB of storage.
The 4GB/64GB Pocket Duo Lite will start at $135 during the preorder period, before increasing to $149 at retail. The 6GB/128GB version will cost $155 for preorder customers and $169 at retail.
Meanwhile, the standard Pocket Duo with 8GB of RAM and 128GB of storage will be priced at $249 during preorder and $269 at retail.
A Dual-Screen Handheld Built for Retro Gaming
The pricing announcement comes as Retroid prepares to enter the increasingly competitive dual-screen handheld market. Unlike conventional retro handhelds, the Pocket Duo is designed with two separate displays, making it particularly suited to games originally created for systems such as the Nintendo DS and Nintendo 3DS.
The standard Pocket Duo features a 5.5-inch 16:9 OLED display with a 120Hz refresh rate, paired with a 4.5-inch 4:3 OLED screen also running at 120Hz. It is powered by Qualcomm’s Dragonwing Q-7790 processor and includes a 6,000mAh battery.
The Pocket Duo Lite takes a different approach to keep costs down. It replaces the OLED panels with 60Hz IPS LCD displays and uses Qualcomm’s Dragonwing QCS6125 processor with Adreno 610 graphics. The Lite also retains a 6,000mAh battery and active cooling.
The two models also differ in their shoulder-button layouts. The standard Duo uses stacked triggers, while the Lite adopts an in-line arrangement.
Retroid Takes Aim at Budget Competitors
The Pocket Duo’s pricing puts it in direct competition with other dual-screen retro handhelds arriving on the market. Retroid’s $135 preorder price for the entry-level Duo Lite is particularly notable, although competing devices such as Anbernic’s RG DS Plus are targeting an even lower price point.
According to Retro Handhelds, the RG DS Plus is expected to start at $85 during preorder before moving to a $95 retail price. That leaves roughly a $40-$55 gap depending on which Pocket Duo Lite configuration is being compared.
For buyers interested in better performance and premium displays, the standard Pocket Duo’s $249 preorder price could make it the more attractive option. Its OLED screens, newer processor and 8GB of RAM give it a substantial hardware advantage over the Lite.
The Pocket Duo family is expected to appeal particularly to players looking for a more natural way to experience dual-screen games without relying on external accessories or squeezing multiple displays onto a single screen.
With pricing now confirmed, attention will turn to preorder availability and how the two handhelds perform once they reach customers.
