Ather Konarc Launched at Rs. 99,999

  • EL platform adds onboard charging, AeBS and 10,000km service intervals
  • S Line favours range while Z Line brings a higher 80kmph top speed

Ather Konarc has been launched in India at a starting price of Rs. 99,999 ex-showroom becoming the first production scooter based on the company’s new EL platform. The EL architecture has been designed around lower costs, simpler servicing, easier charging and everyday usability rather than merely chasing performance.

The Konarc will be offered through S and Z lines with several range options. According to the variant pricing shared at launch, the Konarc S with 100km IDC range costs Rs. 99,999. The 125km version is priced at Rs. 1,21,999, while the 161km version costs Rs. 1,44,999. Pricing for the 200km S, along with both Konarc Z variants, is yet to be announced. All mentioned prices are ex-showroom. The S will be available in five colours, while the Z gets four.

The delivery schedule is staggered as well. The 125km and 161km Konarc S versions are scheduled to reach customers from September 2026. The entry-level 100km version follows in the first quarter of 2027, while the 200km S is planned for the third quarter. Both Z versions are currently scheduled for the second quarter of 2027.

Ather described EL as a scalable platform capable of supporting different scooter formats while sharing major components. It was developed using 26 lakh kilometres of field data and introduced a new chassis, powertrain and electronics architecture. The company also said reducing the component count could make assembly 15% faster and periodic servicing up to twice as quick.

The Konarc gets a 14-inch front wheel as the larger front wheel should roll over broken surfaces and potholes with less disturbance, while 100mm of suspension travel gives the front end more room to deal with poor urban roads.

1,352mm wheelbase should further help stability. This is not a compact, sharply focused scooter in the mould of the 450. The dimensions suggest Ather has deliberately moved towards a more settled family-scooter character, where straight-line stability, comfort and carrying a pillion matter more.

The pillion gets a padded grab handle along with an adjustable backrest. It is a small feature in isolation, but exactly the sort of detail that can matter when a scooter is being used as the primary two-wheeler in a household.

Konarc uses a front disc brake with a combined braking system, or CBS, but Ather has supplemented it with what it calls AeBS Advanced Electronic Braking System. Ather says AeBS can provide up to 20% higher peak braking force while improving control and stability. When the EL platform was first shown, the company said the technology was designed to reduce stopping distances and minimise rear-wheel locking.

AeBS should not simply be confused with conventional mechanical CBS or full ABS. Ather has previously described it as an electronically controlled system intended to provide some ABS-like benefits in a number of braking situations without requiring a traditional ABS setup.

The scoot gets a 450W onboard charging system. That means the charging electronics are integrated into the scooter, so an owner does not necessarily need to carry a bulky charger every time there is a possibility of plugging in away from home. This comes from Ather’s Charge Drive Controller, one of the core technologies developed for the EL platform. Ather combines the onboard charger and motor-control functions more tightly, reducing the need for separate hardware and making charging simpler for the user.

There is another clever element. Buyers who want quicker home charging can add an optional 450W portable charger. Rather than replacing the onboard charger, the two can work together, giving a combined charging output of 900W.

Konarc also introduces MagicKey, Ather’s name for its keyless ignition system. Riders can approach and operate the scooter without going through the usual physical-key routine. More usefully, the scooter can automatically lock itself when the rider walks away.
