Kerry washington Ben Affleck is taking fans back to one of his most memorable movies with a playful new twist on an iconic scene from Good Will Hunting. The actor teamed up with Kerry Washington to recreate the famous moment while promoting his upcoming thriller Animals.
The promotional video, shared on Washington’s TikTok account, revisits the scene in which Matt Damon’s Will Hunting famously delivers the line, “How do you like them apples?” Affleck returns to the role of Clark, the Harvard student from the original sequence, while Washington takes on Damon’s part.
Kerry Washington Steps Into Matt Damon’s Role
In the new version, Washington mimics Will Hunting’s actions from the original movie, including the memorable exchange through the window. Instead of revealing a phone number as Will did in the 1997 film, the new version promotes Animals, with the message directing viewers to its October 9 release on Netflix.
The playful recreation offers fans a nostalgic reminder of the long-standing connection between Affleck and Damon. The two actors famously starred together in Good Will Hunting, which they also co-wrote and which helped establish them as major Hollywood talents.
From Good Will Hunting to Animals
The reunion-style promotion also highlights how Animals evolved behind the scenes. Affleck originally planned to direct the film with Damon in the lead role. However, Damon became unavailable because of his commitment to Christopher Nolan’s upcoming film The Odyssey.
Affleck eventually stepped into the lead role himself and cast Washington as his character’s wife. Jennifer Garner had previously been attached to the project but departed after the changes involving Damon.
Washington said she was attracted to Animals because of its exploration of a troubled marriage and how a traumatic situation can affect a relationship. The film follows a couple whose relationship is tested by a crisis, giving the actors an opportunity to explore how tragedy can either bring people closer together or push them apart.
A Nostalgic Promotion for a New Thriller
The Good Will Hunting recreation provides a clever promotional bridge between Affleck’s past and present. More than two decades after the original film, the actor is once again using one of his most recognizable movie moments to generate interest in a new project.
For fans of Affleck and Damon, the tribute also serves as a reminder of their enduring Hollywood partnership. While Damon does not appear in the new video, Washington’s playful performance gives the classic scene a fresh twist.
Animals is scheduled to arrive in select theaters and stream on Netflix on October 9.
