Jayden reed: The Green Bay Packers secured a dramatic 20-17 overtime victory over the New York Jets on Sunday, but the win was overshadowed by serious injury concerns involving wide receiver Jayden Reed and right tackle Zach Bako-Bewele.
Both Packers players were carted off the field on consecutive plays during Green Bay’s opening offensive drive at MetLife Stadium. Reed suffered a neck injury, while Bako-Bewele sustained a right knee injury.
Jayden Reed Taken to Hospital for Observation
Reed was injured on the Packers’ second offensive play of the game after catching a short swing pass for a 4-yard gain. He took contact in the head and neck area and remained on the field as medical personnel attended to him.
Reed was placed on a backboard, with his helmet secured for stabilization, before being taken from the field on a cart. He was immediately ruled out for the remainder of the game.
The Packers later provided a more encouraging update, saying Reed had feeling and movement in all of his extremities. Coach Matt LaFleur said the wide receiver would remain overnight at a New York-area hospital for additional testing and observation.
Following the game, Reed offered an encouraging message to supporters on social media, writing that he was “doing much better” and thanking people for their prayers and support.
Bako-Bewele Suffers Knee Injury
The Packers faced another setback almost immediately.
On the next play after Reed’s injury, right tackle Zach Bako-Bewele went down with a right knee injury. His leg was placed in a cast before he was taken from the field on a cart.
Bako-Bewele was ruled out for the rest of the game, and LaFleur indicated afterward that the injury could keep the offensive lineman out for an extended period.

Packers Dealt With More Injuries
The injuries to Reed and Bako-Bewele were not the only health concerns for Green Bay.
Guard Aaron Banks left with a toe injury, while his replacement, Donovan Jennings, also suffered a hand injury. Defensive tackle Anthony Campbell sustained an ankle injury, and wide receiver Bo Melton left the game with a stinger.
The injuries created additional challenges for a Packers team already dealing with a difficult game against the Jets.
Green Bay Finds a Way to Win
Despite the early setbacks, the Packers rallied from a 10-point deficit in the fourth quarter.
Jordan Love connected with Christian Watson for a touchdown before Green Bay tied the game with a Trey Smack field goal late in regulation. In overtime, the Packers defense stopped New York’s opening possession, giving Love and the offense an opportunity to win the game.
Smack eventually delivered the decisive kick, making a 26-yard field goal to give Green Bay the 20-17 victory.
The victory ended a six-game losing streak for the Packers, including their playoff loss from the previous season. Green Bay improved to 1-1, while the Jets also moved to 1-1 following the defeat.
Jordan Love Helps Packers Complete Comeback
Love finished the game 16 of 29 passing for 145 yards and two touchdowns. His touchdown passes went to MarShawn Lloyd and Christian Watson.
The Packers struggled offensively for much of the afternoon, but they remained competitive and capitalized when opportunities emerged late in the game.
New York quarterback Geno Smith completed 27 of 41 passes for 247 yards and one touchdown, but the Jets could not hold onto their fourth-quarter advantage.
